Friends of the La Verne Library President and 1st Vice-President Positions Open
The Friends of the La Verne Library is looking for new board members and board officers. The Friends are a non-profit group that supports library programs and services and they were a driving force behind the campaign to build the current Library. The current Friends board is a small group made up of long-time members and officers. Many are seeking to retire from their board responsibilities and as a result the group is looking for an infusion of new members and new officers. The officer positions that the current board would like to fill are the following:
- 1st Vice-President
Responsibilities: the President is responsible for presiding over the monthly board meetings, ensuring quorums in order to conduct business, following and approving meeting agendas and fund expenditures, sending e-mail reminders to officers and board member about upcoming meetings, and providing authorization signatures on checks for library programming and other library needs (furniture, staff supplies, etc.). The 1st Vice President would have the same responsibilities as the President, especially in the latter’s absence. There are ten monthly meetings every year with the exception of July and August when meetings are not held. On average the President and 1st Vice-President can expect to spend 35 to 45 minutes per month on Friends of the La Verne Library business.
The Friends group also wants to expand the board to include more general members. This is key because a larger board ensures quorums which are necessary for conducting business and approving library funds but also allow for rotations of officers among many members instead being limited to a handful due to a small group.
If you want to make a difference in your community please join the Friends of the La Verne Library and support our Library. Persons interested in being an officer or board member are welcome to attend the Friends monthly board meeting that is held on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm. For additional information please contact the La Verne Library at 909-596-1934.
