LA VERNE, CA – Meg McWade will join the City of La Verne as the new Director of Public Works. McWade, currently the Director of Public Works for the City of Fullerton, has 32 years of public service experience including serving as the Director of Public Works for the City of Pomona, where she also served as the Deputy Public Works Director, Utilities Manager, Business Services Manager, and Budget Officer.
“Meg was ranked as the top candidate by our external interview panel and her previous experience as a director in two cities, including here in the San Gabriel Valley, made her the natural choice. Meg will provide professionalism, stability, and a depth of knowledge as she serves our residents and leads the great staff in Public Works,” stated City Manager, Ken Domer. “Having worked with Meg before, I know of her passion for Public Works and focus on ensuring that the maintenance of the City’s infrastructure is a priority.”
Comprised of six divisions, the La Verne Public Works Department employs 48 full-time positions to provide services including Building Maintenance, Street Maintenance, Water Utilities, Sewer Maintenance, Fleet Maintenance, Parks Maintenance, and environmental compliance programs within its annual expenditure budget of approximately $24.1 million. In addition to maintaining the high Pavement Condition Index of the City’s streets, the Director will be responsible for overseeing the City’s pursuit of funding and eventual building of a pedestrian and bicycle overcrossing to connect the future Gold Line Station to the Fairplex; continued enhanced parks maintenance and improvements; Arrow Highway Urban Greening; enhanced sidewalk repairs; ADA improvements at City facilities and public right-of-way; Public Safety Building improvements/replacement; and other City Council directed priorities.
“I am excited to join the Public Works Team serving the community of La Verne. La Verne’s smalltown charm is enhanced by its ability to implement big visions. I am very familiar with La Verne and admire the passion for service, commitment to the community, and excellence embodied by the La Verne Family,” exclaimed McWade. “I am looking forward to implementing the City Council’s and community’s vision for the future while honoring La Verne’s historic past.”
McWade is scheduled to start on March 27, 2023, and will replace the interim Director of Public Works, Anthony Ciotti, a retired annuitant who previously worked as the Deputy Director of Public Works for the City of La Verne. The City is thankful to Anthony for leading the department the last few months and wishes him well as he returns to retirement.
